The ModalResult property of a Push Button is a little-used treasure that can simplify the use of dialog boxes to request or retrieve information from a user. For example, if you need to submit a job on the 400 to run, you may wish to request the Job execution information from the user. This can be easily done with a basic dialog box. As a productive developer, you create the dialog as a reusable part that can be used by any program requiring such information. Also, using your impeccable Windows interface design skills, you, of course, allow the user the ability to cancel the request as well as continue on with it by providing both OK and a Cancel buttons in the dialog. ![]() A quick way to handle the users action would be to create both OK and CANCEL events and to signal those events when the user clicks the respective button. However, a simpler way is possible. Simply set the ModalResult Property of the OK button to “Ok” (note the misuse of the lower case ‘k’) and the property of the Cancel button to “Cancel”. Also, if the user clicks the X to close the form, this also returns a ModalResult = Cancel. Then in the main component, show the dialog modally and capture the modal result as shown in the following example:
INVOKE METHOD(#SB_400BTP.ShowModalForm) IF COND('(#SB_400BTP.ModalResult *EQ OK)') CHANGE FIELD(#FW_JOBNM) TO('#SB_400BTP.uJobname') CHANGE FIELD(#FW_JOBDS) TO('#SB_400BTP.uJobDesc') CHANGE FIELD(#FW_JDLIB) TO('#SB_400BTP.uJobDescLibrary') CHANGE FIELD(#FW_JOBQ) TO('#SB_400BTP.uJobQ') CHANGE FIELD(#FW_JQLIB) TO('#SB_400BTP.uJobQLibrary') CHANGE FIELD(#FW_OUTQ) TO('#SB_400BTP.uOutQ') CHANGE FIELD(#FW_OQLIB) TO('#SB_400BTP.uOutQLibrary') EXCHANGE FIELDS(#FW_JOBNM #FW_JOBDS #FW_JDLIB #FW_JOBQ #FW_JQLIB #FW_OUTQ #FW_OQLIB) USE BUILTIN(CALL_SERVER_FUNCTION) WITH_ARGS(*SSERVER_SSN MYFUNC Y Y #LW_SBPM #LW_SBPMP) TO_GET(#WSERVRC) ELSE * Batch submission canceled by user. Surround will perform testing on an Early Beta releases of Version 10.0 of Visual LANSA to both assist LANSA in the verification of there next release and assure the compatibility of all F4W built applications. Surround is excited to be a part of this Beta program with LANSA and to be able to provide some direct input to the LANSA Developers. Because of Surround’s vast suite of applications built in LANSA and our in depth knowledge of the LANSA products, we were able to provide valuable support to LANSA Inc. and the LANSA Product Center during the last release of LANSA. During this support, we were able to certify that our Frameworks For Windows would work seamlessly with the new release. Virtually all enhancements and changes required and uncovered during regression testing could be resolved in the Framework and would require little to no changes to end client customized applications. An invaluable service to our clients using Frameworks For Windows, this saved them months of development time and money to move there applications into the new LANSA release and take advantage of its new features. Surround is very excited about the upcoming releases of the LANSA products. Version 10.0 is a major release and boasts many new features and enhancements, 19 of which were requests that we had submitted during previous releases. There are a significant number of changes that will provide great new functionality as well as increase application performance and maintainability. By taking part in the early release testing of this new version, we can regression test our systems to insure they will work when 10.0 is ready for General availability. We can also prepare enhancements to the framework to take advantage of the new features and have them available when 10.0 is GA or soon there after. We have already identified and designed some enhancements that will provide useful time saving and productive new functionality. |
