Surround Technologies Acquires VLReporter
BLOOMFIELD, NJ – July 26, 2005 – Surround Technologies, LLC, has added a Visual LANSA report development tool, VLReporter, to its repertoire of products that enhance the LANSA development experience.
By placing VLReporter into any Visual LANSA application, developers can print Windows-like reports with ease by controlling font type, style and size. Additionally, VLReporter enables developers to insert images, such as logos and product pictures, into reports, and provides print preview, printer selection, and email capabilities.
“VLReporter nicely complements our existing suite of LANSA development tools, especially our Envision Visual LANSA Accelerator,” said Lee Paul, Founding President of Surround Technologies, LLC, an information technology consulting firm that has been developing LANSA tools and applications for more than 13 years. Surround Technologies acquired VLReporter from its creator, Wayside Marketing, Inc.
“There is a definite void in the reporting needs of Visual LANSA, and VLReporter fills that void,” Paul added. “We have produced Windows client side reports for several years using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Business Objects Crystal Reports, and the Web, but have always seen a need for embedded style reports that do not need third-party software.”
With VLReporter, LANSA developers can design reports in three easy steps: First, they define the overall report specifications and a title line. Second, they define column attributes. Third, they provide data for each print line. Column spacing and placement is done automatically!
According to Paul, Surround Technologies plans to implement VLReporter in all of their existing products, including Envision Visual LANSA Accelerator. The Envision VL Accelerator provides a framework for developing in Visual LANSA by providing programmers with ready-to-use components, including code generators, templates, wizards, and fully built functional modules, such as search engines.
“VLReporter is a perfect fit in our Envision VL Accelerator and will make report generation a cinch,” explains Derek Maciak, the Vice President of Product Development at Surround Technologies and the chief architect of VL Accelerator.
Surround Technologies plans to maintain VLReporter as a separate product from VL Accelerator. However, special pricing will be established for customers of both products, according to Paul.
Finally, Surround Technologies has big ideas on how to continue to enhance their newly acquired product. “We plan to have new report templates and code generation wizards available in our first Surround Technologies release of VLReporter,” Paul said.
