ST Releases New FTP Server Administration and Security Software
BLOOMFIELD, NJ – September 1, 2004 – Surround Technologies, LLC, a developer of FTP software for the iSeries since 1997, announces the immediate release and availability of their new FTP product, iSeries Universal FTP Server Administration and Security, UFTP SAS. This new software provides full administration and security for the IBM FTP server on the iSeries platform. Use of the FTP Server on the 400 continues to grow more and more, however it is very difficult to administer and lockdown users with different FTP access requirements for a company.
The iSeries Universal FTP Server Administration and Security software provides the ability to control and limit the use of FTP and SSL FTP access to the iSeries and to track and audit all FTP traffic on the server. There are many limitations to the existing iSeries FTP configuration options provided by IBM. This software eliminates all those limitations so that the iSeries FTP server can be easily configured for users to have different levels of access when entering the iSeries system using FTP.
UFTP SAS's FTP access preferences allows the user to enable or disable FTP access to the system and to enable the use of IP filtering, access by unregistered users, and access by Anonymous users. IP filtering allows the server to be secured based for FTP Access based on the IP address the user is connecting to the system from.
FTP Users can be registered in UFTP SAS with User IDs and passwords that are different than the iSeries ID and Password providing a high level of security. This is especially important for non-secured FTP Access. These FTP IDs and passwords can have mixed case and special characters up to 250 characters long. The users can be easily enable or disabled and can be configured to access the system using a Library/File.Member format or a Path format, using an iSeries Format or a UNIX File Format, and to enter a specified Initial Library or IFS Home Directory. The users FTP access and capabilities can be further controlled using FTP Authorities.
FTP Authorities can be configured in UFTP SAS enable or disable the ability for a users to create or delete directories and libraries, change the directory or library they are currently in, list the files of a directory or library, delete files, send files to the server, get files from the server, rename files, and execute CL commands from the FTP Command line. Additionally, the directories and libraries that the FTP user can or cannot access can be configured and if CL command execution is enabled, the allowable commands can be configured.
FTP Access Logging in UFTP SAS tracks all FTP Access to the system and can be used to audit access to the system as well as quickly identify problems or potential security threats.
From now until the end of the year, Surround will be packaging this new software with the Envision Universal FTP, UFTP, product absolutely free and providing it, free of charge, to existing UFTP Clients.
